Raid On Poultry Run Turns Out Expensive
A rooster and a hen, stated by the police to be worth 25/turned out to be expensive pickings for Walter Kopae, Hine Bluett and Joe Kingi, when they pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court at Whakatane on Tuesday to having raided Mrs Kiri Kahaki’s poultry run on the night of October 27 and stolen the two fowls. Mr E. L. Walton S.M. fined each of the offenders £5, with costs. Nor had they been able to enjoy a poultry dinner. Police evidence was to the effect that Mrs Kakahi caught one of them in the fowl run at about midnight handing the captives out to the other two, and at her approach they bolted.
