Golf Club Has Record Membership And Sound Finances
On Wednesday evening members of the Whakatane Golf Club turned out in force to the annual meeting, at which the president, Mr F. R. Combes occupied the chair and gave a full report on ‘the year’s activities, stressing the facts that the club’s finances showed steadyimprovement and that membership had reached the record figure of 193..
The following officers were elected:—President, Mr F. R. Combes; vice-presidents, Messrs L. W. Luxton and 8.,5. Barry; captain, Mr T. Burke; secretary, Mr Stubbs; treasurer, Mr C. A. Suckling; committee, Messrs S. C. Spence, W. S. Henderson, T. A. Bridger, W. Steele, Mesdames Sloane and Winstone; auditor, Mr J. W. Wright. The treasurer reported that the committee had decided to set aside a sum of £IOO for the purpose of starting a Clubhouse Building Fund —to which certain moneys would be added annually. The Ladies’ Club donated £SO to the Building Fund and also opened a Furnishing Fund of £IOO. -
The reports were adopted. Votes of thanks were passed, on the motion of the retiring captain Mr N. Hockin to the members of the club and the committee, green supervisor, the greenkeeper and the Press.
Mr L. W. Luxton spoke in appreciation of all the ladies did for the club especially in catering for interclub matches and the tournament.
