Highly Successful Drama And Dance Evening At Waimana

A drama and dance evening arranged by the Drama Circle of the Waimana Women’s Institute recently was an outstanding success. All plays and sketches presented were well received, and the players of the Taneatua W.I. Drama Circle, who also presented a play, received a great hearing. Their help towards the programme was greatly appreciated. There was quite a large audience, visitors coming from most surrounding towns.

The plays presented were: “Five to Five-thirty,” which had quite a good story and a touch of good humour. Players taking part were Mrs G. Mitchell, Miss Alice White, Miss Nola Rust, Mrs Stevenson and Mrs Cooper.

A humorous sketch entitled “Mechanical Jane,” caused great laughter and was well, acted by Mrs F. Savage, Mrs S. Eagle and Miss Lola Savage. A drama followed, “Miracle of Blaise.” The scene was, the village of Blaise in occupied France on Christmas Eve, 1941. The audience’s interest was held to the end of the play, which was well presented by Mrs Wylde, Mrs R. White, Miss A. White, Mrs Cooper, Mrs Looney and Mrs Hewitt.

Final play of the evening was a comedy, very ably handled by Taneatua members, “Everyone Comes to Mabel.” The scene was the sitting room in Mabel’s home, and the cast was Mrs Goodhew, Mrs Tebbutt, Mrs Butler, Mrs Frost, Mrs L. Grey, Mrs Moore and Mrs McDonald. At the conclusion of the plays, Mrs R. Looney, on behalf of the Institute members, thanked all the players and offered special thanks and appreciation to the Taneatua visitors for their valued help. The speaker also thanked all who attended the evening. Mrs Looney then presented the producers of the plays with lovely floral posies. Mrs Wylde, Mrs F. Savage and Mrs Grey; and the Taneatua players all received a bunch of flowers.

Supper was then served and a short time was spent in dancing.
