Collins Shield Cricket Opens With Win For P. & T. Rovers

J. B. Rivett Takes Batting Honours: Hat Trick To Quigp In the first of this season’s matches in the Whakatane Cricket Association’s Collins Shield competition last Sunday, P. & T. Rovers beat P. & T. Rangers by 64 runs. In the other scheduled first-round match, Waimana defaulted to Te Teko. Rangers had first knock, and were ail out for 76, only , three batsmen, Mclntosh (24), Seebeck (20) and W. D. Rivett (18) making double figures. Bowling for Rovers, Quigg scored the hat trick. Rangers im- - proved in the second strike, knocking up 101, Gillam 32, Taylor 24 and Herbitson 13. J. B. Rivett took five wickets for 7 runs. Rovers made 155 in their first visit to the creases, substantially .assisted by J. B. Rivett (52), Shapley • (28 not out), Thomas (28) and McCready (21). Their second effort was not so hot, and J. B. Rivett, who retired after making 40 runs, contributed nearly half the total of 86. Details:—
