Taneatua Women’s Institute Birthday Celebrations

The Taneatua Women’s Institute celebrated its eighteenth birthday at the November meeting, when quite a number of visitors, were present including members of Sister Institutes. Mrs Grey presided. Business was quickly dealt with to allow for the entertainment of tht; afternoon. Mrs Grey warmly welcomed all visitors expressing- the hipe that they would enjoy the afternoon. Mrs W. Semmens was presented with a long service badge.

A Nursery. Rhyme singing game was followed by a wall competition, which was won by Mrs Gardner. Mrs Bennett gave a humorous recitation and Mrs Goodhew a monologue. Both were well received. A further competition caused some merriment, this being followed by a Mad Hatter’s Parade which was won by Mrs Moore. A sponge cake was won by Mrs Rust of Waimana, and a dinner by Mrs Doreen of Taneatua.

Following afternoon tea, two foundation members, Miss Hills and Mrs Semmens, were asked to perform the ceremony of cutting the cake.

Competitions resulted: Best flower, Mrs Moore 1, Mrs, Allen 2; best vegetable, Mrs Bennett 1, Mrs Moore 2; six cakes, Mrs Bennett 1; floral centrepiece, Mrs Fitchett 1, Mrs Bennett 2.
