Manawahe Women’s Institute’s 18th Birthday Celebrations

Manawahe Women’s Institute celebrated its 18th birthday on Thursday of last week in the local hall, which had been decorated for the occasion. There was a fair attendance at the monthly" meeting. Mrs Bowden presided. After the business had been disposed of, visitors were invited in for luncheon. Birthday celebrations began with all present singing “Comrades and Friends.” Games and competitions were enjoyed throughout the afternoon. A happy day was'brought to a close with afternoon tea when Mrs Withy Snr. lit the 18 candles on the birthday cake made by Mr,s Logan Snr. and beautifully iced and decorated by Mrs Appleby. ■ - : The winners of the month’s competitions were: Best flower, Mrs Bowden 1, Mrs Mikkelsen 2; shoulder spray, Mrs Morice 1, Mrs Baldwin 2; eggless biscuits, Mrs Logan Jnr, 1, Mrs Reid: 2. .. _. ;
