No Veterinary Science School For N.Z. Yet
' (From Federated Farmers) Auckland, This Day. From many branches in the Auckland Province of Federated Farmers have come requests urging the Government to establish a Chair of Veterinary Science. This was referred to the Minister of Agriculture and the Auckland Provincial Secretary has now been advised of the. Ministerial considerations.
A Veterinary Services Committee made a special report which was published in January, 1945. The majority decision was against the establishing of a Veterinary School in New Zealand at that time. The Minister has drawn attention to the fact that a long vacation and extra-mural terms are spent in New Zealand by the students who have the benefits also of training by some lecturers at Sydney University, who are themselves New Zealanders. It is the opinion of the Minister that as both countries are pastoral the broader training in Australia is likely to have beneficial rather than adverse effect on the graduate.
Furthermore, the Minister considered that certain basic subjects require to be dealt with by the best men available.
