Bay Of Plenty Golf Clubs Decide To Form New Association

A meeting of delegates representing the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty Golf Clubs held in Rotorua last Saturday, resolved that the Bay of Plenty Golf Association be formed. Among the advantages to be gained from such a move, it was agreed, were the engagement of a professional to serve all of the clubs concerned, regulated inter-club or pennant matches, tournaments for all grades, inter-Association matches, Champion of Champion matches and uniformity of handicapping systems.

The clubs interested in the formation of the Association are: Rotorua, Tauranga, Mt. Maunganui, Te Puke, Whakatane and Opotiki. Sub-committees were set up to prepare rules and other essentials for a general meeting of delegates in March next to finalise formation.

It is expected that several smaller clubs affiliated to the N.Z. Golf Association will also join the newlyformed organisation, A provisional committee has been set up, with Mr R. Jones and Mr J. Purcell, both of Rotorua, acting as chairman and secretary respectively.
