Whakatane Fire Brigade Superintendent Resigns
The resignation of the Superintendent, F. H. Stewart, was tendered to the meeting of the Whakatane Fire Board held on Fridal evening last and accepted. Mr Stewart’ will have completed 25 years’ fire service in December next, for the last nine •of which he has occupied the position of Superintendent to the Whakatane Brigade. He explained that the step was taken with regret but was necessitated mainly for health reasons.
The Board decided that the Superintendent’s resignation be' accepted with regret and that the question of the appointment of his successor and deputy be left in the hands of the local committee.
The chairman, Mr S. S. Shapley, expressed the extreme regret of the Board that Mr Stewart found this step to be necessary. He made laudatory reference to the work of Mr Stewart whilst a member, and particularly while Superintendent of the Whakatane Brigade. He expressed the Board’s appreciation and remarked upon the high degree of efficiency attained by the Brigade under Mr Stewart’s control. He felt that Mr Stewart would leave the service of the Board carrying with him the knowledge of a job well and faithfully done. ? Other Board members spoke in like strain and all expressed their appreciation of Mr Stewart’s efficient service.
At the Fire Brigade Demonstration held at Nelson on March 11, 1937, Mr Stewart won the New Zealand one-man championship.
