Bishop Of Waiapu To Visit Whakatane During Next Week

Rt. Rev. N. A. Lesser, Bishop of Waiapu, is to visit Whakatane on Thursday, November 13. He will conduct a confirmation service at St. George’s Church that evening at 7.30 and the rededication of (he Mothers’ Union on Friday morning at 10.30. That afternoon he will attend a garden party at Mr T. Howell’s farm at Awakeri, and will conduct an evening service at Taneatua at 7.30 p.m. On the Saturday morning at 7.30 the Bishop will officiate at a Holy Communion service at St. George’s, Whakatane, for the newly confirmed and others. He leaves later that day. The Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, is to welcome the Bishop at a bazaar in the Parish Hall at 2.30 p.m.

Bishop Lesser was consecrated Bishop this year in Napier. It is his first visit to this parish. He came to this country from Nairobi, where he was Dean of the cathedral, and where he had been since 1939. Before that he served in the Diocese of Liverpool. Bishop Lesser was known to many New Zealand soldiers during the war and many enjoyed his hospitality.
