Kutarere Wharf And Shed May Be Repaired

The Opotiki County Council has decided to put in good order and repair the wharf and shed at Kutarere and enter into negotiations with the Northern Steamship Co. to charge and collect, on behalf of the Whakatane County Council, wharfages on all goods handled over the wharf. The initial cost of putting the wharf and shed in good order and repair may be somewhat heavy, but the Opotiki Council considers that the expense is justified as the necessity of a wharf at Kutarere -in its opinion undoubtedly still exists. It is anticipated that the wharfage charges will in due course repay the initial expense.

In receipt of a letter to that effect, the Whakatane County Council has decided that the Opotiki Council be asked for an estimate of the cost of the necessary repairs and also for particulars of the estimated wharfage and other wharf revenue, if any and that, when the reply is received, further consideration be given to the proposition.
