When a prospective workman approached a Northland local body officer for employment ina quarry, the incident had its amusing side. Asked his experience in this class of work the applicant surprisingly replied: “I was six months in the Auckland prison. I worked in the quarry all that time.” He did not get the job as his gaol experience did not qualify him for a quarryman’s ticket.
