GAY BEACH WEAK WELLINGTON DISPLAY
Colours that rival tropical birds for brilliance will be seen on the beaches this summer. Sea lime green, hibiscus red and pink, deep sea blue, cherry and emerald, dazzling. white were all shown in the parade of beach and sports wear which opened in a Wellington store recently. A new material, silky finished “swim-skin,” which sheds water like a duck’s back, has been used to make the bathing suits which are in two-piece sets in vivid bicolour combinations of brassiere and shorts or in one piece, beautifully tailored and lined and edged with contrasting braids or crisp frills. Notable points are the return of frills and feminine trimmings, the new longer skirt in sun frocks, and below-the-knee jeans in pastelcoloured linens.
One charming sun frock is in Mexican stripes of tan, white, and green, with the stripes used horizontally as a border. Another of blue and white polka dots has cap sleeves and insets of cherry and white spots. Many have midriff tops and full skirts in stripes and patterned cottons. An American tartan seersucker sun frock had a full frill edging the off-the-shoulder neckline and the hem. Mother and daughter ’ sun suits with matching hats are also highlights of the forthcoming summer beach wear.
