Pumping Up Production

A further electric flood pump went into action along the WhakataneThornton Road last week, making one more pump discharging water from the low areas of farms into the Orini Creek drainage channel. The. latest installation was carried out by the Power Board last month, calling for the running of about 15 chains of line and the installation of a new transformer.

The whole of the farm land from Thornton for about four miles towards Whakatane is now receiving benefit from flood pumps installed at the expense of landowners. As a result the land is kept fairly dry in the wet season, and production of butterfat is much improved.
