First Match Of Cricket Season Won By United
The 1947-48 cricket season was opened on Saturday when the Whakatane United Cricket Club defeated the Putaruru Club by 69 runs on the first innings. Following are the scores:—
United 175, W. J. McKenzie 74, B. Palmer 46.
Putaruru 106, S. Gadsalve 29, M. Hunt 22.
W. J. McKenzie 4 for 29; L. R Spring 3 for 31.
