President Says Winter Show Finances Strong Despite Lower Revenue

Despite a loss of £IOO 6s 2d in the revenue account, compared with a working profit of £57 10s 5d the previous year, the president, Mr H. G. Warren, says in the report he will present to. the annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Winter Show Association next week that, taking all things into consideration, the financial position is strong. However, he stresses the point that in his opinion the position will deteriorate unless a show is held to revive interest in the affairs of the Association. “Your Executive Committee explored every possibility of purchasing or hiring a suitable power plant in order that the Show could be held in 1947,” he adds, “but we were reluctantly compelled to abandon the idea. The position for the coming year appears to be a little brighter with regard to the supply of power.” Mr Warren also says the amalgamation of the two Show Societies is practically assured, the only two points left to be overcome being the shifting of the Winter Show Buildings and method of raising finance. The executive thinks there are reasonable prospects of shifting -’the building early in 1948. The Accounts Hall hire, £149 Is 8d as against £233 10s lOd and only £8 8s members subscriptions as against £27 for the previous year account for the deficiency in the revenue account, the report continues. Depreciation amounting to £64 2s 2d has been written off buildings and plant for the year. Cash in current account amounts to £231 5s lOd as compared with £292 19s 2d last year while the Post Office Savings Bank account showed a credit balance £419 7s lOd as against £409 3s 4d in 1946. Accumulated funds show a reduction of £IOO 6s 2d for the year. In conclusion, the president thanked the secretary, Mr Hamilton Morgan, and the members of the executive committee for their able assistance and advice.
