Maoris Defeat Pakehas In Hard Game
The Maori-Pakeha game on Saturday resulted in a hard-fought but unspectacular struggle in which the Maoris emerged the victors by- 11 points to 8. The Maoris obtained possession for practically the whole of the game but failed to make enough use of their three-quarter line. In the loose the Pakeha forwards were perhaps a little more vigorous than their opponents and their backing-up saved the score being greater on many occasions. The teams were:—
Pakehas: Bryers, McGougan, Black,' Laurie, Black, Martin, Hurran, N. Dodd, Goodall, Wilson, Hollis, Semmens, Sisam, Bell, Hayward. Maoris: Huta, Biddle, Kororiko, Tawa, Tina Riini, Nuku, Hotene, J. Dodd, Bluett, Ranapia, Ratahi, Mate, Te Pou, Tauroa, Watarawi. For the Maoris Ranapia, Biddle and Tawa scored tries the first being converted by J. Biddle. For the Pakehas Laurie and Martin scored tries one of which was converted by McGougan. Mr J. Keepa was referee.
