Auxiliary Savings Bank Office Opens At Whakatane

Congestion at busy times at the Whakatane Post Office will be considerably eased with the opening yesterday of a temporary subsidiary office at the rear of the main building to handle money-order, savings bank and miscellaneous business. Public opinion welcomes a big step forward, but the man in the street still insists that there should be no fagging in the agitation for the new Fost Office which has been promised.

Yesterday there were two clerks installed in the auxiliary building. Today it will be carrying its full staff of three at the desks to handle money-order, savings bank, pensions, motor registration and rationing business. Interior finishings of the prefabricated steel ex-Army building are neat, businesslike and attractive, layout having been planned to give the greatest possible convenience both to public and staff within the space available. The public lobby, equipped with the usual wall desks, gives ample room for queues before the clerks’ cubicles, behind which are ranged the ledgers’ and supervisor’s desks. At the back, space has been found for a comfortable staff retiring room.
