Manawahe Women’s Institute Meets

The Manawahe Women’s Institute’s October meeting drew a good attendance. Mrs Bowden presided and welcomed Mrs Armstrong, Federation President, and Mrs Peck of the Otakiri W.I.

Mrs Baldwin was appointed secretary following the resignation of Mrs Appleby, which was received with regret. After formal business, Mrs Armstrong gave a brief resume of the recent council meeting held at Waiotahi, to which Manawahe was unable to send a delegate. She also demonstrated a neat and easy way to make bound buttonholes. Mrs Peck showed how to make children’s felt mocassins, wool mops and artificial lapel sprays. All the demonstrations were very interesting and greatly appreciated by all present.

Suggestions were called for and arrangements made for the Birthday Celebrations to ;be held next month.

The amusement competition was arranged by Mrs Baldwin and was won bjr Mrs Bowden. Other competition winners were:—

Best flower: Mrs Baldwin 1, Mrs Jones 2;- Best eggs: Mrs Bowden 1, Mrs Baldwin 2; Best collection six bulbs: Mrs Bowden 1, Mrs Mikkelsen 2; Salt bag article: Mrs Logan Jnr. 1, Mrs Baldwin 2. Hostesses for the day were Mesdames McMillan and Logan Jnr.
