WHAKATANE CLUB

The results of the games played on the Whakatane Links on Saturday in the Open Day competitions, are as follows:

Morning Medal: W. Henderson 86—14—72; B. Alexander 84—12 72; D. Allen 94—22—72. Four-ball Bogey: W. Howat and G. Gartshore 5 up.

Afternoon Stableford: B. Alexander, W. Henderson, N. Hockin 34., Four-ball Bogey: G. Gartshore and N. Hockin 4 up. , Next Saturday’s competition is a Town -V Country match, played as a four-ball, in which players will arrange their own partners. WHAKATANE LADIES’ CLUB This week an L.G.U. Medal round will be played. TANEATUA CLUB

A most enjoyable day was spent recently when members of the Taneatua Golf Club gathered together for their closing day. The weather was perfect, play was keen and the lady members served a very delicious lunch and afternoon tea.

In the morning a one-club match was played and in the afternoon approaching, putting and long driving competitions were held. After afternoon tea had been served, Mr W. Alexander, president of the club, addressed the gathering. He spoke of the pleasure the links had provided during the short time they had been opened and regretted the necessity of closing owing to the growth of grass. He thanked all those who had worked so hard to get the links opened and particularly .those ladies’ who had supplied lunch and afternoon tea every club day thereby accumulating a substantial credit balance for the club funds.

Mr Alexander presented the trophies won during the season. These went to':— Ladies McDonnel Rose Bowl: Miss K. Doran. Hamerton Cup: Mrs C. Rawson. President’s Trophy: Mrs L. Grey. R. Hunt Cup (for player gaining biggest reduction in handicap): Mrs L. Grey. Closing day approaching and putting: Miss K. Doran. Long Drive: Mrs C. Rawson. One Club Match: Mrs C. Rawson. Men A Championship: A. Carter, run-ner-up, N. Doran. B Championship: G. Symmans. C Championship: D. Cr ad wick. Rogers Cup: T. Hunt. President’s Trophy: G. Symmans. Closing day approaching and putting: C. Moore. Long Driving: D. Cradwick. One Clpb Match: A. Clark. After the presentation of trophies Mrs Tebbutt presented Mrs N. Semmens, club captain, with a box of spring flowers as an appreciation of her good work for the club.
