BROWN BEETLES’ FEAT
BORED THROUGH CONCRETE
Amazing as it may seem to farmers the brown beetle, adult of the grass grub, has been “caught in the act” as it were of boring through concrete.
This feat was performed at Ohope where a resident found the beetles going through concrete paths which had been laid for 24 hours. The beetles were at various depths and were digging in in order to lay their eggs. *'*'
“If Mr Semple had a machine capable of doing this in proportion,” concluded the path owner with a smile, “he could make all the tunnels he wanted!”
