GALATEA PARS
SCHOOL, COMMITTEE
INCREASED ACCOMMODATION NEEDED
The monthly meeting of the Galatea School Committee was held last Monday evening. In view of the rapidly increasing school roll the secretary was asked to make application to the Education Board for the erection of a further room. 1 In an effort to raise funds for a school swimming pool it was decided to hold a Paddy’s Market at the end of November. Mrs Neilson and Mrs Cave have offered to organise the sewing arrangements and later a house-to-house canvas would be made by committee members. On The Farm One Galatea settler has been having some luck in acquiring food for Britain. He has been presented with 39 piglets from 3 sows. The last one to farrow produced T 8 live ones. Personal Mr N. C. Benson, proprietor of the Murupara Bakery, is leaving the district at the end of the month for health reasons. He. has sold his business and will make an extended tour of the North Island before settling down again. Mr Benson has the distinction of being the first Rural Mail contractor in the area and although he has been in the district but three years, has made innumerable friends. His keenness to assist in the progress of various committees and organisations in the Valley both by personal effort and generous donations; have won him the. gratitude and goodwill of them all. He was one of the foundation members of the Murupara Branch of the Whakatane Chamber of Commerce. Good health Mr Benson!
Murupara’s new baker is Mr Keller, a returned soldier who comes from Pukekohe.
