STOCK MARKET

EDGECUMBE PRICES

BACONERS TO £6 117-

Messrs. Farmers Auctioneering Co. Ltd., report on their Edgecumbe sale held last week. All classes of pigs were in keen demand. Bacon and buttermilk pigs in particular sold at advanced rates. Quotations: Top weight bacon £6 9s to £6 11s; heavy bacon to £6 3s; choppers to £6 15s; buttermilk pigs £4 15s to £5 3s; large stores £3 15s to £4 8s; small stores £2 16s to £3 9s; slips to £2 12s; weaners 30s to £2 3s; sows to farrow to £lO.

GALATEA PRICES

A feature of the Galatea sale last week, was the disposal of four incalf cows offered by Mr J. Wilson, who has moved into the world of pedigrees. These cows were the last of Mr Wilson’s grade herd and were guaranteed to produce well over the 3001 b butterfat mark.

They were well conditioned and close to profit, and were well worth the £l4 they brought. Prices generally for culled dairy stock ranged from £2 10s to £l2 15s. Bidding began slowly but livened up after a few yardings had been put under the hammer.

This sale was the third to be held at Galatea, and probably will be the last at the stockyards of the Lands and Survey Department. New saleyards are in the course of construction and should be built before the next sale.
