4 “HARD UP” DANCE

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION

A large crowd dressed in all manner of cast off garments turned oht to attend the “hard up” dance, organised by the executive committee of the Young Caledonians,v which was held in the Caledonian Hall on Saturday night last. The evening commenced with the piping in of the Chief of the Young Caledonians, Mr W. Abbott, by Pipe Major H. D. Paterson to the tune of “My Dreams Are Getting Better all the Time.” The highlight of the evening was the parade of all those in hard up costume. The prizes were awarded to Mrs A. Stewart and to Mr Rawson. i Mr George Paterson and Miss Dorothy Stewart gave two duets, “Beautiful Ohio” and “The Naughty Waltz.” Mr W. Abbott gave a sword dance (hard up) accompanied on the pipes by Mr H. D. Paterson with the tunes “Sioux City Sue” and “F*[ve Minutes More.” Music was by the Premier Orchestra and Messrs. C. Ranby and G. Ramson were M.C.’s. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr J. Chadwick and Miss J. Hamill. Supper was served and the evening concluded with the singing of Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem.
