LADIES’ TOURNAMENT BAY OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP The ladies’ tournament which was played on the Whakatane Golf Links last week was an evident success. Visitors were highly complimentary in their remarks and many stated their intentions of returning next year. Bycroft Rose Bowl Results of play for the Bay of Plenty Championship, played on Tuesday, with the winner’s name mentioned first, were: — Tuesday Morning Round: Mrs Plutchinson (Gisborne) v Mrs Ferguson (Middlemore); Mrs Thomas (Te Teko) v Miss Black (Whakatane); Mrs Waltby (Tauranga) v Miss Reynolds (Whakatane); Miss Robins (Whakatane) v Mrs Browne (Cambridge); Mrs Hare (Tauranga) v Mrs Swanger (Rotorua); Mrs Farmer (Te Puke) v Mrs Carr (Rotorua); Mrs Steedman (Tauranga) v Mrs Hardy (Cambridge); Mrs Symmans (Whakatane) v Mrs Penno (Rotorua).
Tuesday Afternoon Round: Mrs Hutchinson beat Mrs Thomas; Miss Robins and Mrs Maltby; Mrs Farmer and Mrs Hare; Mrs Symmans and Mrs Steedman.
Semi-final, Wednesday Morning: Mrs Hutchinson and Miss Robins won at 13th; Mrs Symmans and Mrs Farmer.
Final: Mrs Hutchinson beat Mrs Symmans 1 up. Whakatane Handicap (Trophy Thompson Cup) Semi-finals: Miss Baxter (Whakatane) and Mrs Luxton (Whakatane); Miss V. Carter (Whakatane) and Mrs Carter (Opotiki). Final: Miss Carter; runner-up, Miss Baxter.
Best Gross Medal, Seniors: Mrs Hutchinson 83 and 84—167. Best Nett Medal, Juniors: Mrs Plare 71 and 70—141.

Canadian Foursome: Mrs Steedman and Mrs Hardy nett 78. Championship Flight: Mrs Swanger; runner-up, Mrs Penno. Handicap Flight: Miss Hyland; runner-up, Mrs Potter. No. 1 Flight: Mrs Sisam; runnerup, Miss Otley. No. 1 Consolation Flight: Mrs Johnson; runner-up, Miss Izod. No. 2 Flight: Mrs Morley; runnerup Mrs Miles. No. 2 Consolation Flight: Mrs La Trobe Hill; runner-up Mrs Harrison. Putting, Ist day: Mrs Carter. 2nd day: Mrs Otley, Mrs Berg and Miss Robins tied.
Aggregate: Mrs Sundgren. Mrs Symmans, captain „• of the Whakatane Ladies’ Club, briefly welcomed the visitors and thanked them for supporting the tournament in such numbers.
The committee much appreciated the assistance they received from Mr Stubbs and Mr Luxton and other members of the men’s club who helped prepare the links; Mr Berg, Mr Powdrell and Mr Moore, who acted as starters and especially thanked Mrs Spence and Mr W. Syme who worked on the cards every day. Mrs Sloane, Ladies President, presented the cups and trophies. Three cheers were given for the visitors, hosts and the helpers. Championship The senior championships semifinals resulted: Mrs Symmans beat Miss Black and Miss Robins beat Mrs Thomas. The finals will be played when the junior division semi-finals has been played off. The Bronze Division: Mrs Luxton beat Miss lane; Miss Hyland beat Mrs Fraser; Miss Armstrong beat Mrs Sloane; Miss Baxter beat Mrs Otley. In the semi-finals Miss Armstrong beat Miss Baxter and will now play the winner of Miss Hyland and Mrs Luxton. The non-handicap matches will be continued this week. ; During the tournament handicaps were reduced as follows: Mrs Thomas 16, Miss J. Armstrong 19, and Mrs Reardon to 30.
