GLADIOLUS SOCIETY

FORMED IN WHAKATANE TWO MEETINGS HELD At a meeting held in the Borough Council Chambers recently it was decided to form a society to be known as The Whakatane Gladiolus Society. Gardeners and all those interested in flowers will be interested to learn of the successful launching of this body. The objects of the society are to foster and encourage the development of gladiolus, to hold an annual show and to generally further members knowledge of all branches of the culture of gladiolus. The annual subscription has been fixed at 10/6. Election of Officers The following officers have been elected:— Patron, Mr H. J. Ryde; president, Mr P. Farnworth; vice-presidents, Mrs Trindall, Mrs J. Larmer, Messrs Beattie, W. Clarke, P. Coutts, J. D. Rivett, W. Whittaker, H. Dewar, T. Jordan and B. S. Barry, secretary and treasurer, Mr W. E. Stringer. Progress To Date Two meetings have been held and it has been decided that in future a meeting will be held on the first Thursday in each month. The first annual show will be held about December 16, the actual date being governed by the season. The society is anxious to obtain more members so 1 that it will have the successful future it deserves.
