HERD REPLACEMENTS

COMING DEBATE FEDERATED FARMERS’ COMMENT In an interview with the Beacon Mr F. T. Mayo, secretary of the Rangitaiki Branch of Federated Farmers, made several comments on the coming debate in the Edgecumbe Presbyterian Hall on Monday next. Educating Young Farmers The view his body held, said Mr Mayo, was that it was actually an education to the young farmers to meet older men and discuss the problems of dairying in a debate. There is much to be learned by both sides as well as by the audience. As the outcome of these debates many questions would be raised and settled. This could have the effect of increasing production, thereby assisting Britain. Old Subject The subject of the debate, “That it is advisable to rear ones own herd replacements on a 100 acre dairy farm” is one which has long been disputed by farmers. There are many who take the negative but the majority hold an affirmative view. There is, as in most cases, much to be said for both sides and all this will be brought up on Monday. All farmers who are able to should make a point of attending, to support and §id the young farmers besides gaining a good deal of interesting facts concerning both sides of the debate.
