SWIMMING CONTROL

BAY OF PLENTY CENTRES' MEETING AT TE PUKE Representatives of swimming clubs from Rotorua, Te Puke and Tauranga were present at a recent meeting in Te Puke when it was decided to reform the Bay of Plenty Swimming Centre. During the past 18 months all swimming clubs in the Bay of Plenty area constituted a sub-centre of the South Auckland Centre, affiliated to the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association.

The N.Z.A.S.A. has now granted full-centre status to the sub-centre and the following clubs will now be affiliated to the new body:—Tauranga, Te Puke, Whakatane and Pirates, Ohinemutu and Whakarewarewa, of Rotorua. ■ With the winding-up of the subcentre, the sum of £7B was handed over to the new centre, this amount representing the accumulated profits of the sub-centre during its existence.

The election of officers for the 1947-48 season resulted as follows: Patrons, Mr F. W. Doidge, M.P., Mr W. Sullivan, M.P.; president, Mr Musgrave (Rotorua); vice-presi-dents presidents of all affiliated clubs; secretary, Mr Perham (Rotorua); treasurer, Mr M. Piper (Rotorua); handicapper, Mr Gar lick (Rotorua); educational officer, Mr C. Lindsay; resident delegate to N.Z. council, Mr Toomey (Christchurch); delegate to N.Z. council, Mr C. Lindsay (Rotorua). It was decided that the official colours of the Bay of Plenty Swimming Centre be plain grey and black stripes.

The Tauranga Amateur Swimming Club was represented at this meeting by the president, Mr J. G. Crawford, Mr R. Newland and Mr B. Hedges. The reforming of the Bay of Plenty Centre, it was stated, was an important move in the interests of swimming generally in the Bay of Plenty and more particularly as far as Tauranga was concerned, as it was almost certain that in the future, when Tauranga possessed swimming baths, the headquarters of the centre would be located in that centre. Tauranga, it was pointed out, was the most centrally situated district in the Bay of Plenty area. The headquarters of the centre will remain in Rotorua.
