SWIMMING CONTROL
BAY OF PLENTY AREA HEADQUARTERS IN ROTORUA A meeting of affiliated swimming clubs in the Bay of Plenty was held at Te Puke recently to discuss the reforming of the Bay of Plenty Centre. Rotorua, Tauranga and Te Puke were represented, an apology being received from Whakatane. Arising out of the meeting of the N.Z.A.S.A. in Christchurch last month a resolution was passed urging the resumption of the Bay of Plenty Centre with full status, and it was agreed that the headquarters of the centre should stay in Rotorua for the remainder of the year, commencing operations probably in November. During the early stage of the war difficulty was experienced with the control of swimming under the jurisdiction of the Bay of Plenty Centre, with headquarters at Rotorua. As the result of recommendations by a special committee appointed by the New Zealand Swimming Association, the affairs of the Bay of Plenty Centre were administered by the South Auckland Centre with headquarters at Hamilton.
The latter centre recently recommended the setting up of a commission to determine the future status of the Bay of Plenty Centre. Against this proposal the Bay of Plenty Sub-Centre protested and gave details of its operations last season, claiming that its performance entitled it to recognition as a full centre.
Rotorua has some very promising young swimmers of both sexes, and with a new and enthusiastic team of officials in control much is expected of this centre during the coming season.
