PROGRESS LEAGUE MEETS CARNIVAL DAY FIXED There was an attendance of about 60 at a meeting of the Ohope Progress League held in the Bible Class Hall on Monday night. In the absence of the President, Mr J. H. B. Warner through sickness, Mr E. R. Marryatt presided. Sports Day It was decided to hold a carnival and sports meeting on the Caledonian Sports area on January 29. A committee of seven consisting of Messrs. Warner (chairman), F. G. Cutler (secretary), E. R. Marryatt, G. Gordon, H. Armstrong, R. Herdman and Mrs D. Gordon was set up to finalise arrangements. The function will take the same form as last year, athletics, marching competitions and highland dancing being included on the programme. Parcels For Britain A discussion on the “Parcels for Britain” scheme took place and it was agreed to raise funds for this by means of canvassing, social evenings etc. Letter To County Lengthy discussion on the disgraceful state of the roads and footpaths at the beach took place. It was decided to write to the Whakatane County Council to endeavour to obtain some improvement.
