HOSPITAL AFFAIRS

MEETING OF BOARD The September meeting of the Whakatane Hosuital Board took place yesterday Mr J. Mullins presiding. Present: Messrs. J. P. Caulfield, J. A. Mitchell, C. A. Suckling, L. Buddie, A. McGougan. The secretary, Mr F. Prideaux, was also in attendance.

Discussing the Works, Committee’s report the chairman stated that the purchase of a spraying plant for utilising D.D.T. in the hospital buildings had been under consideration and members had been divided on the question as to whether a larger spraying set costing approximately £SO, and capable of applying paint, would be preferable to the smaller set for D.D.T. only. After some discussion it was decided to refer the matter back' to the committee, with an indication that the majority favoured purchasing the larger set. New Morgue Plans for the new morgue which the Board intends building were before the - meeting and were given formal approval. Mr Buddie stated that he definitely approved the site which he considered suitably placed in view of its nature. Visiting Committee Reporting for the Visiting Committee Mr Caulfield said he could give it in two words “No complaints.” .“Aren’t you a bit extravagant,” observed Mr Bqddle. “You could have left out one word and merely said ‘good’.” (Laughter). Messrs. Mitchell and McGougan were appointed visiting committee for the ensuing month. Occupational Therapy Notification was received that the Red Cross authorities were prepared to send an instructor to instruct one of the staff in occupational therapy, which could be utilised for the benefit of patients. The Board decided to take advantage of the offer and it was left, to the Medical Superintendent and the Matron to find a suitable member of the staff who would be willing to learn.
