REHABILITATION
NEARLY £25,000,000 SPENT An increase of over £1,800,000 during July brought the total finance expended or authorised for the re-establishment of ex-servicemen in civil life to £54,325,816 says the latest available report of the Rehabilitation Board. Om this sum the largest part is accounted for' by the £40,845,208 authorised for loans for setting up homes, farms and businesses and for the purchase of furniture and tools of trade and other minor miscellaneous purposes. The purchase of land for settlement, its development and related expenses, accounts for £6,832,374; training for trades, both at Rehabilitation centres and on wage subsidies including farm training, £4,317,000; education £l,x'96,568; and special grants allowances, expenses and other minor small items £523,807. Financial aid extended to Maoris, apart from what individual Maoris may have received through ordinary channels, comes to £445,199.
Grants, allowances and loans to sustain the various activities of Disabled Servicemen’s Re-establish-ment League and the Blinded Servicemen’s Trust total £165,660.
