REGENT THEATRE
“THE JOLSON STORY” Columbia Pictures’ “The Jolson Story,” enriched with Technicolour magic and told in the melodies that all of us have always loved, will open Friday at the Regent Theatre, featuring Larry Parks, Evelyn Keyes William Dema'rest and Bill Goodwin. Based on the music, the ‘magic and the times of America’s greatest entertainer, “The Jolson Story” is described as a glowing cavalcade of this country’s colourful show business. Any such story would have to be told largely in songs, and the hew film is said to contain close to a record number of hit tunes for any one picture. The list is indeed an imposing one. Included are “California, Here I Come,” “Swanee,” “You Made Me Love You,” “My Mammy,” “Waiting for the Robert E. Lee,” “April Showers,” “I, Want a Girl,” “Good-bye Mr Bluebell,” “There’s a Rainbow Round My Shoulder,” “Liza,” “Rock-A-Bye Your Baby!,” and “By the Light of the Silvery Moon.”
Larry Parks portrays Jolson in the film and has been proclaimed as the sensation of the season because of his remarkable performance. Evelyn Keyes has the feminine lead opposite Parks, while Demarest and Goodwin enact characters familiar to the history of show business.
