RUGBY FOOTBALL SHALFOON SHIELD MATCH The Te Puke forwards proved too good for Rangitaiki in the last challenge for the Shalfoon Memorial .Shield which was played at Matata on Saturday] Te Puke,- the challengers, won 16—3. The Puke kicked off with the sun behind them. Davis fielded and found the line. From the lineout Te Puke secured and carried play into blue territory Davis again saving. From a scrum Te Puke heeled and Anderson made ground for the reds. From a lineout Enoko broke through but Anderson saved with a nice kick. From the lineout Searie sent the ball well downfield but the blues cleared.
A series of lineouts followed, Rangitaiki gaining ground. From a scrum the blues were penalised,’Te Puke clearing .and following through fast. Tukiwako gathered and cleared. From a scrum Te Puke heeled but a fumble spoiled a promising movement.
Blues took the upper hand, Davis securing and starting a movement in which most of the Rangitaiki backs handled. Savage broke, through near the corner and ran behind the posts to score. Davis missed an easy kick.

A series of lineouts followed the kick off. Play surged up and down the field. When Rangitaiki were penalised near the sideline Anderson attempted to goal but the ball went wide from a good kick. Blue cleared. Later the blue forwards took play to the Te Puke goal line but Te Puke forced.
Te Puke attacked strongly, forcing their way into blue territory. From a 10 yards, scrum Edmonds scored a good try wide out. Anderson attempted to convert but a nice kick fell short. Rangitaiki 3, Te Puke 3. The score stood until half-time. Following the change-over the red forwards were prominent, dominating most the play and receiving good support from the backs. From a scrum Te Puke hooked, Bell beating the defence to send the other backs away. Cameron scored but Anderson failed to convert. Te Puke 6, Rangitaiki 3. From a scrum Te Puke were penalised, Davis taking a shot at goal which, though jn a good position went wide. Davis had suffered a minor injury to his and went back to full. Hawthorne came up to five-eighths. Te Puke had the upper hand and though Rangitaiki were not slow to take advantage of opportunities the better combination told on them. The red forwards broke through and Pattie scored under the posts. Rois converted. Te Puke 11, Rangitaiki ‘3. Searie tried for a field goal but it missed and Rangitaiki forced. Corbett (Te Puke) was injured 1 and was replaced by Ryan. Te Puke kept up the pressure and the blues forced in their own goal again. , . From a forward rush Melton forced between the posts. Rois converted. Te Puke 16, Rangitaiki 3. Rangitaiki pushed hard in the last few minutes and carried play to the red 25. Te Puke cleared and the whistle went for time. Mr Whitehead was referee.

RIFLE SHOOTING [ WEEKEND RESULTS. The following are the results of a competition shoot held at the Valley Road range over, the weekend. Competition was very keen and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent by all. The sweepstake shoot was won by C. Bathe with H. Brabant second. Competition results were:— Returned Servicemen 519.6; Legion of Frontiersmen 516; Junior Rifle Club 508; Rod and Gun Club' 582. Detailed results were as follows:
RANGITAIKI CLUB SATURDAY’S RESULTS
The Rangitaiki Rifle Club held a practice shoot last Saturday. Conditions were fine but at the 600 yards a fishtail wind was blowing, preventing high scoring. S. Pearse and W. Moore both made 64. The next shoot will be held on Saturday, September 20.
