WAIRAKA DEFEAT AHUWHENUA CUP CHALLENGE In a hard and willing match the Wairaka men’s A team narrowly defeated Ahuwhenua (holders) in a challenge for the Te H-arunu Memororial Cup. Ahuwhenua won the cup from Rangitaiki the day before, this being their first challenge match for the trophy. At half-time the score was 3—l in favour of the holders but Wairaka put in a determined effort and evened the score. With fifteen minutes to go' the play see-sawed from one end of the field to the other. A smart solo effort by W. Penny notched a goal for Wairaka, making the score 4—3 in their favour.
The final whistle went with both teams hard at it and the score remaining the same. Mr T. Whetu made the presentation.
