New Starter For Ellerslie Mr J. Gavin has been appointed starter for the Auckland Racing Club in succession to Mr R. H. Skipworth, who has resigned. For some years Mr Gavin acted as assistant to the latter at various meetings. Bruce For Melbourne Cup Further arrangements have been made in respect to Bruce's trip to Melbourne to contest the Big Cup in November, and'he is to be shipped early in September, as the Wahine is to resume the inter-Colonial passenger service on September 12. For The Avondale Guineas It is now understood that the 19.47 Great Northern Foal Stakes winner, Demonic, by Defaulter, will contest the Avondale Guineas this month instead of trying conclusions with the Wanganui Guineas three year olds. 1 Speeding Up Beau le Havre contributed an exhibition gallop at the New Plymouth Hunt Meeting, and under just a nice hold skipped over five furlongs in lmin. 2 2-ssecs. The next time out with the colours up, he should be ready to make the opposition gallop.
