WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

■WAIMANA BRANCH ■ GARDENING CIRCLE The August meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute gardening circle was held at Mrs B. W. Hughes’ home. Mrs Wylde presided over an excellent attendance of members'.

After the reading of the minutes by the secretary, Mrs R. White, a general discussion on gardening problems took place. It was decided that each member grow a rose bush for competition and the secretary was instructed to secure the bushes from a nursery. The September meeting is to be held at Mrs Hewitt’s home. '

The day’s competitions brought forward very good entries and results were as follows:

Best flower: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs C. Hampton 2, Mrs G. Mitchell 3. Best vegetable: Mrs C. Hampton 1, Miss D. Hughes 2, Mrs Hewitt 3.Jug of spring flowers for effect: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs C. Hampton 2, Mrs R. Looney 3. A dainty afternoon tea was served by Mrs Hewitt and Mrs J. Mitchell, dfter which members viewed the lovely garden, always, bright with flowers and well kept. Mrs Wylde thanked Mrs Hughes for the pleasant afternoon spent by all and for the use of her home. She also thanked the hostesses and judges.
