SUCCESSFUL DANCE

FOOD FOR BRITAIN WOMEN’S INSTITUTE FUNCTION The attendance of the Whakatane Pipe Band at the dance held at Waimana recently in aid of Food for Britain added greatly to the brightness and success of the function. The pipe band gave their services free as well as all others who assisted with the music for dancing. A much enjoyed vocal duet, was given by Miss Dorothy Stewart and Mr Patersop, of Whakatane, the singers being recalled for an encore.

Two junior members of the Pipe Band played several Bagpipe duets. The marching and piping display given by the band during the evening was an excellent performance and thoroughly enjoyed by the large crowd present. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr H. Mole, who had prepared a programme of old-time and modern dances, and kept the evening going with a swing. The Pipe Band played for several of the old-time dances, including the Highland Schottishe. Novelty dances were popular during the evening.

Two competitions held during the evening were won by Mr Kile and Miss J. Wylde.

After supper Mrs Reuben Looney, president of the Waimana Women’s Institute, thanked the Pipe Band members for their great help towards the evening, which was greatly appreciated,, and all present then sang “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows.” Mrs Looney also thanked all who hac( helped with the music, also the doorkeeper, and all helpers with the supper. The sum of £l7 15s was taken at the door.

The evening closed with “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem.
