TYRE POSITION
LARGE ORDERS TO FILL THREE MONTHS TO BRIDGE GAP There had not been an extra large rush of prospective tyre purchasers since the lifting of the restrictions on the sale. of tyres said the manager of a Whakatane firm wAen interviewed by a representative of the Beacon. He went on to state that the wholesalers would fill only orders on permits at present on hand and could not promise tyres in great quantities. The 19 inch tyres were most in demand and his firm alone had orders for 40 of these. Two other sizes in demand were 17 inch and 21 inch. Tyres of the “popular” size, 16 inch, were not so keenly sought after. Provided regular shipments arrived from overseas it would take at least three months for the position to right itself. By that time the holiday period would be coming on and the demand for tyres would grow again.
Things were, fiowever, rather up in the air at present and as time went on conditions should gradually come back to normal.
