INDOOR BASKETBALL
SUCCESSFUL TOURNAMENT TAURANGA AND GISBORNE VISITORS A very successful and spectacular tournament was held in the Winter Show Buildings on -Saturday night under the auspices of the Whakatane Indoor Basketball Association. Teams from Tauranga and Gisborne were present and these, together with the Whakatane teams combined to put on a really good exhibition of the game. A noticeable feature was the difference in the play of the men’s and ladies’ teams. Th eladies’ play was decidedly reminiscent of outdoor basketball although a great deal faster. The crack Gisborne team, Colts, were really first class. Results of the games were as follows: Ladies B Tauranga 9, Whakatane 7. Whakatane 4, Gisborne 2. Tauranga 26, Gisborne 17. Men’s B - Whakatane 8, Gisborne 8. Tauranga 28, Whakatane 3. Whakatane 17, Gisborne 10. Ladies A Tauranga 20, Whakatane 7. Gisborne 20, Tauranga 7. Gisborne 12, Whakatane 11. Men’s A Gisborne 22, Tauranga 7. Tauranga 9, Whakatane 4. Gisborne 29, Whakatane 8.
A pleasing feature of the evening was the support accorded by the public. Though there were few spectators at the commencement they gradually rolled up until quite a good crowd was present.
