WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MANAWAKE BRANCH AUGUST MEETING The August meeting of the Manawahe Women’s Institute was held in the local hall on Thursday last with an average attendance. The meeting opened with the singing of the Ode to Friendship, after which Mrs Thompson read the Aspirations. Remits for the forthcoming Council meeting were fully discussed. The roll call, “First Impressions- of Manawahe” proved very interesting and gave newcomers to the district some idea of pioneering conditions. Mrs G. Logan, who was responsible for the afternoon’s entertainment, provided a written competition which was won by Mrs Baldwin. Competition results were as follows: — Best flower: Mrs Goldsmith 1, Mrs Mikkelsen and Mrs Thompson 2. Best shrub: Mrs King 1, Mrs Bowden 2. Child’s scrap book: Mrs Appleby 1, Mrs Bowden 2. Best face cloth: Mrs Bowden 1, Mrs Appleby 2. Mesdames Drabble and Morice were the hostesses and a dainty afternoon tea served by them brought an interesting meeting to a close.
