AERO AND GLIDER CLUB ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING ; The annual meeting of the Whakatane Aero and Glider Club was held on Thursday. Members of the Tauranga Club present *were Messrs. Roberts (president), Johnson (engineer), and R. Graham (instructor). There were about eighteen members of the local club present and Mr C. H. Brebner was in the chair. Apologies were received from Messrs. W. Sullivan (patron), Butler, Mead and Johnston. Not Of High Priority A letter was received from Mr Sullivan enclosing a copy of the reply received from the Minister of Public Works, Hon. R. Semple, and a plan of the sandhills site which was endorsed as the site for Whakatane’s aerodrome. The letter stated that, from a National point of view, this work could not be' afforded high priority. Steps Would be taken to ensure that tenancy of the land would in no way interfere with the establishment of an aerodrome at a further date. - ‘ Chairman’s Report i In his annual report the chairman, stated that the membership of the club had increased, the club had been incorporated but no start had been made with flying. A suggestion that members travel to Tauranga to receive instruction had not been very well supported and at the moment the club was no nearer flying than when its activities commenced. '
During the year a very interesting syllabus of lectures had been given. These were well attended at first but interest had gradually dwindled. The secretary read the minutes ofthe meeting of the aerodrome. committee and the report drawn up which appeared in the Beacon some time ago. The secretary presented the balance sheet and both this and the chairman’s report were adopted.
Subscription Following a suggestion of the president, that the annual subscription be reduced as no flying was available, Mr Whitworth moved that it be reduced to 5/-. An amendment, that should flying take place during the year flying members subscrip - tion would be increased to £2 2s, was added. 1 Election of Officers The previous year’s officers were • re-elected as follows: Patron: W: Sullivan, M.P..
