Minister Under Fire
“The Minister of Internal Affairs was the man, who, prior to the election,' said 'in Rotorua that the Government was considering handing over the water scheme to the borough, the implication being that it was to be handed over ‘buckshee’,” remarked Mr W. Sullivan (National, Bay of Plenty) replying to an interjection made by the Minister in the House of Representatives.- “That was just prior to the election, but after the election it handed the scheme ®ver with a bill for £28,000. Apparently, the idea had been to' give support to the party’s candidate. “The Minister of Internal Affairs held a meeting in the Regent Theatre in Whakatane. He spoke during the time scheduled for the showing of a picture, and by the time he had finished, the theatre, which had a capacity of 640 people, contained, an audience of about 60. All things considered, I think it would be better for the Minister to keep quiet.”
