WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
THORNTON BRANCH JULY MEETING The Thornton Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting on the evening of July 10. In spite of inclement weather about 30 members braved the elements and enjoyed a happy time. Mrs Robb was in the chair and after usual preliminaries the secretary read the minutes of the previous meeting and some correspondence was dealt with. As the next meeting will be the second birthday of the branch, arrangements were made to celebrate that occasion and a full attendance of members on the afternoon of August 14 is hoped for. Those present were entertained with two items from the junior membersc of the Glee Circle, followed by a humorous ( sketch entitled “Five to Five-Thirty,” ably presented by members of the Drama Circle. Supper was served and the meeting closed with the National Anthem.
A box of chocolates for food parcels fund was drawn and was won by Mrs Sheat. Competitions for the month were awarded to:—
Best flower: Mrs Smith 1, Mrs J. Branch 2.
Best vegetable: Mrs Watts 1, Mrs Sheat 2.
Egg cup posy: Mrs Smith 1, Mrs J. Branch 2.
