Novel Method of Fighting Fires
Superfortress bombers and Thunderbolt fighters will soon start dropping “water bombs” to put out forest fires in a new technique that may save millions of acres of forest land. Small tests were carried out in Florida and now the real thing will be tried on big fires in Montana. The “bombs” are converted fuel tanks filled with water. They may be dropped to burst on impact or exploded by a fuse 50 feet above the fire. Several small fires were completely subdued by this means in Florida.
