Pit Production Increasing A prediction that pig production in New Zealand would increase from 600,000 killed this year, to the pre-war level of 1,000,000 pigs a year by September, 1948, was made by the superintendent of the pig industry, Mr H. M. Pierson, at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Pig Breeders’ Association in New Plymouth. His reason for the prediction, he said, was that production rose enormously in March and April of this year. ' No Limit on Food Parcels The British Post Office in a statement says: “We are doing nothing whatever to restrict or limit gift parcels from any Dominion. We have no desire or intention to put any limit on food parcels and the British Post Office can handle all that the Dominions can send.” Mr Hackett (Postmaster-General), had been advised of a statement in a London newspaper that Britain had told New Zealand that if a continued increase in gift food parcels overloaded transport and delivery in Britain the service might be suspended. Horses Impounded During the month of June 21 horses were impounded—all were released. Thus a paragraph from the Borough Inspector’s report to the council last Monday evening. This seems an unusually heavy quota of strays for one month and must constitute a veritable death-trap for motorists.
