WEDDING BELLS

RIVETT-POULSON A wedding of widespread local interest to the Whakatane town and district took place in the Methodist Church, King Street, last Wednesday afternoon when before a large gathering of friends and relations, Eunice Ingeborg, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs S. Poulson, of Petone, Wellington, was married to William Dempster, eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. Dempster Rivett, of Whakatane. The Rev. F. J. Climo officiated and Mr N. E. Rigden Sen., officiated at the organ. The bride who was given away by Mr W. Crawford, made a very charming picture in a full length dress of ivory embossed satin, relieved with lovers knots. Fashioned on classical lines the fitting bodice with its low neckline and tight-fit-ting sleeves gave way to a full embroidered skirt which formed a long train. Her veil was of light tulle and was held to the head by clusters of orange blossom, which allowed it to fall away to form a second train. She wore silk stockings and silver shoes and carried a charming bouquet of white stock and maidenhair fern.

Assisting her as bridesmaids, Misses Nellie and Phyllis Rivett also made a charming pair in frocks of sprigged organdie, offset with tiny bows of scarlet material.. The skirt lines were flared from gathered bodices which were relieved with puffed sleeves. Both wore wide picture hats, red shoes and carried bouquets of red camelias, daphne and poinsettia. Mr Jack Lundy, of Auckland, a close friend of the bridegroom, attended as best man, and Mr James Turpin, of Whakatane, as groomsman.

At the reception which was held in the Caledonian Hall, Mr and Mrs Rivett received the large gathering of guests. Mrs Rivett wore a pale blue hand-embroidered crepe frock with navy blue hat and accessories to tone, together with a shoulderspray of daphne. With Mr W. Crawford as toastmaster, there were no dull moments and all joined in making the occasion the happy event it undoubtedly was. The toast-list was as follows: ‘The Loyal Toast’ the toastmaster; ‘The Bride and Bridegroom’ Mr B. S. Barry and the Bridegroom; ‘The Bridesmaids’ the Bridegroom and the Best Man; ‘The Bride’s Parents’ Mr C. Free and Mr L. Berg; ‘The Bridegroom’s Parents’ Mr C. Kingsley-Smith and Mr J. D. Rivett; ‘Absent Friends’ Rev. Climo; ‘The Officiating Minister,’ Mr Crawford and Rev. Climo; ‘Caterers and Musician’ Mr Turpin and Messrs. Bell and Rigden; ‘The Toastmaster’ Mr Rigden and Mr. Crawford.

Mr and Mrs W. D. Rivett, who were the recipients of many beautiful and valuable gifts left later on their honeymoon tour, the bride wearing a mustard coloured light travelling frock with brown accessories. They will be absent for three weeks after which they will make their future home in Whakatane.
