DECREASE SINCE 1935 Why has there been a general decline in dairy production in recent years? Here are some figures which show how there has been a decrease in cows, herd and suppliers. Dairy cows totalled 1,807,377, in 1935 and 1,622,000 in 1936, a decrease of over 185,000. Herds of dairy cows in 1940 totalled 68,739, while in 1946 there were 64,935, a decrease of 3803. Suppliers of dairy factories num bered 71,000 in 1937, and 57,200 in 1945, a decrease of 13,800. As a consequence of all this the pig production has declined from 800,802 in 1936 to 549,000 in 1946, a decrease of a quarter of a million.
