GIFT EVENING

GATHERING AT OHOPE MISS DEAN HONOUREDThe Presbyterian Church, Ohope, was the scene of a very happy gathering on Wednesday last when Bible Class and Church members joined forces in wishing Miss Nora Dean all happiness on the eve of her approaching marriage with Mr Ron Tooke, of Edgecumbe. The function took the form of a kitchen evening.

Mr C. Aicken presided as Master of Ceremonies and young and old joined heartily in 'competitions, round games and folk dances which were ably superintended by Miss Alison Hogg, Miss R. Garaway providing the music. Miss Dean was presented on arrival with a dainty 'shoulder spray of carnations and maiden hair fern by Mrs Brebner, and later in the evening was the recipient of a beautiful shower also of carnations by Mrs Allen.

The Rev. H. M. Bell spoke in very eulogistic terms of Miss Dean’s unfailing interest and work, both in the church and bible class during the last three years and voiced the best wishes of all present for her future happiness. Miss Dean responded in suitable terms expressing her appreciation of the kind remarks and . her deep gratitude for the beautiful array of thoughtful gifts. A delightful supper was served by the ladies present and a very enjoyable evening concluded with the singing of Auld-Lapg Syne and the Benediction.

The guest of the evening is to be .married from her aunt, Mrs Graeff’s residence in Rotorua next Saturday, July 19, to Mr Ron Tooke who is well known in the Whakatane district.
