AUSTRALIAN BARITONE

CLEMENT Q. WILLIAMS APPEARANCE IN WHAKATANE Formed with the idea of bringing the very best overseas artists into the smaller country centres the Community Arts Service is doing good work in this direction. Through the efforts of the local branch, the outstahding and distinguished Australian lyric baritone, Clement Q. Williams, will make an appearance in Whakatane tonight. Mr Williams commenced singing at an early age and at nine years was making important concert appearances. At that time he was described as being the possessor of “one of the finest soprano voices yet heard.” During World War I, he served with the Australian Light Horse in Egypt and Palestine. On his return to Australia business claimed his attention, but so much in demand was he as a singer that he was soon devoting all his time to music. Since then he has -become firmly established as a radio and concert artist, his voice being described as “the perfect radio voice.” Whakatane music lovers may be assured of a varied and delightful programme which will appeal to all tastes.

Mr Owen Jensen, who needs no introduction to Whakatane audiences will accompany Mr Williams and will also play some solo numbers.

It is to be hoped that the public will respond to the opportunity of hearing this outstanding singer for only if sufficient support is forthcoming can appearances of other outstanding artists of Mr Williams’ class be secured for Whakatane.
